April, 1987, Pima County, Arizona

A young man named Carl J. Voltberg, who had previously been working on a project on computer security for a multimillion-dollar company, recognizes the connection between the human brain and network systems analysis. He concludes that psychological patients and mentally handicapped people could benefit greatly from a computer machine that could fix the broken or lost connections in the brain. He begins research and development of the machine he called “The Reprogrammer.” Also at the same time, a geneticist named Urban Murray begins cloning humans under government protection for projects undisclosed.



March 1990, Washington D.C.

Just less than three years later, Voltberg and his colleagues, Lars Handel and Peter Sterns, are on the verge of completing the incarnation of the dream. The machine they built is capable of reorganizing the bits of information in the brain, thus reducing any mixed signals or miss-communicated information to nothing. The three are prepared to go public when a team of government agents abducts them. They are taken to the real “Area 51,” fifty miles south and east of Groom Dry Lake. The base, later dubbed The Workshop, was part of the new counter-terrorism war that had sprung up since the Cold War ended. The project was titled AntiEyes. From AntiEyes, came the second-generation project based on the research of Voltberg, Handel, and Sterns. It featured several clones created by Urban Murray, whose popularity in the spy industry was growing. The idea behind Project ATMOS (Artificially Triggered Mental Operation System) was to create spies who could activate mental processes that normal human beings could not. Fifteen years later, The Project was a resounding success.



June, 1999, Worldwide

ATMOS goes public and creates a spilt fund from the government and begins to market spies to foreign agencies around the world. AntiEyes and ATMOS are now at odds.



December, 2005, The AntiEyes Workshop, Nevada

Voltberg, Handel, and Sterns have run the ATMOS spy program for more than a decade. There are many working ATMOS spies that fit into schemes around the world. They make three times as much in a year as it costs them to run, fix, and maintain the spies. The cover agency has been Biomedical supplies for five and a half years. There have been numerous crossover projects between ATMOS and Murray’s clones. One of these clones is accidentally revived after being terminated. She is the first rogue ATMOS. National relations with Voltberg and company decline drastically. The international computer-age spy network begins posting warnings about future terminations.



January, 2006, Worldwide

Several ATMOS team members around the world are simultaneously released. They have no memory of The Workshop or ATMOS. Many become freelance spies and assassins. Most have lost touch with their special abilities. All of them are going to learn the truth.

Question: How do you catch a spy who can be in two places at once?



Answer: You can’t.



This is the premise of HW Program PEQT. In 1987, a man by the name of Urban Murray began research on cloning, under the supervision of the US government. His assignment was to create perfect clones that could not be recognized from each other in any way, including DNA. His task was to become so familiar with genetics that his lab could produce a clone with any given characteristics.



The first Human Weapon Program that used Murray’s clones met with some turbulence in use and control in the 1990s and after 1999, the first program was let go.



The second program was not originally designed to build superspies, but simply to build untraceable spies. The original concept spies were simple pairs of clones, identical and trained, but unadjusted genetically to be super human. The general code name for the project was the Double Identity Clone action or DICa. PEQT was the code name for the two most successful sets of these clones, the female Platania/Electra and the male Quicksilver/Titanium. These four spies were the first test subjects of the Total Clone Control research done by Murray and the outcome was astounding, if outside the bounds of the original DICa Program. The “twins” were able to sense each other’s emotions and actions, not only creating a very effective killing team but also creating an unstoppable deceptive force.



The ability to be in more than one place at a time becomes a danger in 2003 when several of the non-adjusted clone pairs make incredibly cunning escapes from Groom Lake. The controls never had a chance. The clones made their way to foreign countries to sell their services to the highest bidders. With the commotion and lack of control demonstrated in HW DICa, the management was forced to use other spies to eliminate the DICa Twins, one at a time. Later, the need to eliminate old projects like DICa spawned a new program called the Rogue Spy Termination Program or RoSTeP.



The fate of the PEQT spies was not decided right away. There was still a strong need for superspies in the field and project ATMOS had been removed from service by 2006. The PEQT spies were finally released for continued service that year because they had performed exceptionally and were all allowed to enter service as Controls for CIA NOC operatives around 2008.



Platania/Electra still serve today.



Quicksilver/Titanium disappeared in November, last year, in the fiasco over National Weapon SPRAT-3. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

In 1951, three years after the supposed Roswell New Mexico crash, four government scientists were allowed access to an object that had entered the Earth’s atmosphere moving faster than 35,000 miles per hour. Fortunately, the object almost completely evaporated in the atmosphere on its decent, but it did hit the ground. The event was covered as an alien crash, complete with fake alien bodies. This was a cover for an incredible object that would be under study for the next twenty-five years.



The object was a small, impure lump of carbon that had traces of titanium, aluminum, lithium, and boron. The Rock, as it was dubbed, became a scientific object of almost religious significance. The outer three feet of the meteor had disintegrated in the Mesosphere, leaving the Rock to the descent of 64 kilometers unprotected of increasingly fricative atmosphere.



The miracle that the Rock survived the impact and the decent lent credence to a little known government paper published on the alloy’s impenetrability. Grants were set aside. Scientists were interviewed. Later, the Rock was taken to Groom Lake where it was under scrutiny until 1982, when the scientists, now aging, found a breakthrough in the composition of the alloy. It was called Nuclear Steel because the boron allowed the alloy to receive many times as much energy as it normally would have in the heating process. The cooling created a superdense, single crystal chain with such an amazing resistance to pressure and impact, it became the subject of yet another government military project, under the supervision of the NSA, in project National Weapon.



Work began on how best to form and shape the material. It was used to create a threaded sphere that could be opened. Inside was placed an asbestos shell with a mouse inside. The sphere was lowered by ceramic tongs into a vat of molten steel. The mouse was fine.



The armor project spent the next seven years developing a system of perfectly interlocking plates that left no area of a man uncovered. The project underwent a change in name twice, going from Impenetrable Armor System to Carbon Armor System to Alloy Soldier Program.



In 1989, with the advent of superconducting computers and a young robotics genius named Randall Swan, ASP was closed down and reinitiated as the Self Propelled Robotic Armor Type. Swan proved that he could build a set of flat actuators that could fit inside the armor, next to the man’s clothes and provide power assistance to the joints of the armor, thus solving the problem of maintaining the suit’s shape while in combat, without restricting movement. Later, a new addition featured actual links to the user’s muscle mass by way of small electrodes placed on the skin. These read the user’s movements even more accurately than the earlier system of motion control.



The Third suit was built because the original user of the first suit had been female and contracted leukemia. Unfit for combat or testing, the second suit was locked up until a replacement pilot could be found. SPRAT-3 incorporated a large back mount for extremely heavy weapons as well as winches and an attachment for an external power source. SPRAT-3 is a weapon to be reckoned with.



At least, it was, until it was stolen.
